Two friends with breast cancer; two different stories - Magda & Kate

download

In this article, Magda - Equipment Pilates Instructor and Movement Studio Co-ordinator at Healthhaus - shares her personal story of Breast Cancer, and how her friend Kate is battling cancer today.

‍

Kate is my friend, whom I met in Jersey at Highlands College in 2011. We both wanted to improve our English and took the course together.

Since then, we both were caught by breast cancer.

I was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer at age 35. Fortunately, I recovered fully. I found a lump under my armpit and wanted to have it checked. An MRI scan and biopsy confirmed the cancer cells. I had two surgeries in Jersey and spent one month in Southampton for radiotherapy. I was very lucky and I am very grateful for that.

As part of my recovery, I looked at my food habits and made some changes.

I started to incorporate more superfoods and antioxidant-rich foods into my diet - and I am still focusing on that. I eat a healthy diet of nutrient-dense foods and exercise regularly which I believe are very important. You will recover faster when you eat well and move. Regular check-ups are important too of course.

After the surgeries I had to re-learn how to move my arm to its full range of motion. It wasn't easy. It was painful but everything takes time and if you don't give up you get there. Thanks to the exercises I did, I was able to return faster to my workouts and to lead Pilates classes with clients.

Kate's Battle with Breast Cancer

Kate's (Katarzyma's) story is more difficult.  She was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in 2025 - a devastating diagnosis that has completely changed her life. What followed has been an incredibly difficult journey filled with fear, uncertainty, pain, and treatments that would challenge even the strongest person.

Kate has already undergone breast surgery, including mastectomy/lumpectomy, followed by an intensive course of six different types of chemotherapy. She has also undergone two rounds of radiotherapy. Through it all, Kate has continued to show extraordinary courage and strength.

But her journey is not over. She can't work at the moment. With no job, there is no money. She is currently living in a homeless shelter in Jersey

Kate still needs further treatment and medical care, and the financial burden is becoming increasingly difficult. The costs of treatment, medication, travel, recovery, and everything that comes with a serious illness can be overwhelming. Kate's Polish friends collected some money for her treatment in Germany but after checking some information about the company Kate decided not to proceed. Not wanting to lose the contributed funds, instead, she used that money for medication and doctors but her fight is not finished. She needs to continue treatment.

That is why we are reaching out to family, friends, our community, and anyone who feels able to help.

Every donation, no matter how small, can make a real difference. Your support can help Kate access the treatment she needs and give her one less thing to worry about while she concentrates on healing.

If you are unable to donate, sharing Kate's story is also an incredible way to help. Every share can reach someone who may be able to support her.

Kate has already fought so hard. Now we want her to know that she doesn't have to face the next part of this journey alone. Please donate or share if you can.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for every kind word, every share, and every contribution.

Together, we can help Kate keep fighting.
