What I do atHealthhaus and how I can help you

My job is extremely varied and involves everything fromstrategy to staff training, compliance to marketing.

My focus is on improving our members’ and clients’experience on a day-to-day basis while planning for future developments. I’malways learning something new and never get bored!

Long before Healthhaus existed I worked as an air trafficcontroller, and discovered how beneficial exercise was as a tool for managingstress. I started dragging my friends along to the gym with me as I wanted themto experience the benefits.

In 2005 they eventually persuaded me to do mypersonal training course and that was the start of a new career. I have workedin the fitness industry ever since, as a personal trainer and sports massagetherapist, before branching out into fitness lecturing and club management.

I was asked whether I would be interested in managing apersonal training studio, which was still in its conceptual phase. I took ahuge gamble, left a job that I loved and became a partner in the business. Itrapidly morphed from a small PT studio into Healthhaus as we know and love it today!

What I love about working here

I don’t love theadmin that’s involved in running a business (there, I’ve got that off my chest)but I love everything else.

I love workingwith and coaching my team. We’re a really diverse bunch with different backgroundsand with different life experiences, so everyone brings something unique to theClub. We learn from each other. I’m very fortunate to have such a passionateand hardworking team who get on so well – most of the time!

I also loveseeing people walk through the door on their first visit incredibly nervous, andthen leave with a smile on their face. It’s great to see members improve theirhealth and fitness over months and years – I even love seeing members move onto different clubs or types of fitness because they’ve grown in strength, mentallyand physically, and want a new challenge. It’s amazing to have the opportunityto change people's lives.

My passions outside of work

I love being out in nature, I find it so inspiring andreally calming. Whether it’s hiking, gardening, playing in our local river orsimply watching wildlife, it makes me happy.

My other passion is food. I love to cook with my husband, especially if it’s for other people, and I love to eat. It’s just as well asthat I love to exercise too! My perfect day would be preparing a BBQ or picnicfor friends and exploring somewhere new. A glass of red wine and a sunsetwouldn't go amiss either!

I also lived on a boat forsix years. I’m back on dry land now but it’s made me a neat freak. Plus thesound of storms sends me off to sleep, and I used to suffer from ‘mal de terre’at work – the opposite of sea sickness!
